how good is stardard suspention? the one thats been bought was aprantley doing doughnuts at rsr tyres and turned over . , so basickly i dont want it doing this when im flying around on the roads , is this a common thing and is there a suspention set up thats recemended to stop this .. i know NOTHING about thease cars by the way ,
im very mecanicly minded tho as been in the motor trade for over 10 years ,
im also a member on the gtroc , as my baby is a skyline R34 GTR .

Re: hi guys

Chris....sounds like it might have been thrashed a bit then!!!

"turned over doing donuts"......don't try it then!!! I suspect that they have probably disabled the traction control/yaw sensor to be able to get the car to spin in the first place....it's normally VERY difficult to get a smart to do this!! (unless the above have been done & on snow/gravel etc?)

Wider rims & tyres front & rear will help any stability problems....tend to work well with 195 tyres at both ends (although you will get some people here saying that isn't the ideal set up, as everyone has different theory!) Personally run this (or with 205's on the rear) for a long while now without any handling problems & will make the car feel a lot better on m'ways & cornering. Adding lowered suspension will also help, but it does make the ride a little 'firm'!!

How many miles has the car done?....Do you know if it has had any work done on the engine?
A quick search through the forum will reveal that smart engines normally last between 60 - 100k miles before needing major attension, so bear this in mind if looking for a replacement. It can normally be better/cheaper to get the engine in the car re-conned (properly, by fudgesmart or one of the other experts NOT Merc!).....if you then want more power a remap is cheap & probably a better option than buying a used Brabus engine of unknown quality!!

Best of luck...let us have any more questions/options that you are thinking about.

Re: hi guys

thanks mate that stuff is helpful .
the brabus engine i was looking at was on eBay lol.

dose a remap mess up the fuel economy?

i have no idea of this cars history the speedo read in kms i think 123 , 000 but not sure of that i think at work were going to change the shell for a 2001 shell and swap all the bits over , so will be a nice project

Re: hi guys

Sounds like a big project then.....are they sure it's worth swapping all the bits to a new shell?.....While it's all apart I would get the engine reconned anyway, at the sort of milage clocked it's probably gonna need it & will save a lot of time/hassle as you swap it over!

It may already have been mapped, as it's had exhaust changed....a map is usually the FIRST thing that gets done on any smart, then exhaust/induction to improve performance!

It shouldn't really affect economy, provided you dont drive it flat out everywhere!! You can tell if it has been mapped (once you have the car running) as it will have the 84mph limiter removed, and will be a lot easier to keep in 6th gear on m'way hills etc (non mapped cars will struggle & need change down to 5th gear in a lot of places!)....hence by staying in top gear longer you should get same/better economy.
